Thank goodness for that old David Letterman joke. It helps make this post a little lighter.
Earlier today, according to 60 Minutes Sports:
The reported (head) of the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency told (a) show representative for Oprah that Armstrong offered the agency a “donation” in excess of $150,000 several years before an investigation by the organization led to the loss of Armstrong’s Tour de France titles.
Nothing disgusted me more last October than reading about Lance Armstrong and his fall from grace in the biking world.
I never liked the guy. His ego was off the charts. I felt he was patently disingenuous. So when the news hit, I closely watched (with a bit of delight) as he crumbled hard from his ill-gotten pedestal.
A story I’ve been following for a long time has finally landed with a bomb. Lance Armstrong has been stripped of all his Tour de France titles. This is a massive fall from grace. Worse than the Lewinsky scandal with former US President Bill Clinton who, has since bounced back by working his ass off to be forgiven by the public.
Armstrong who survived cancer became a hero to many and applauded for being a ‘fighter’ with all of Hollywood rallying around him. Even though he was not a movie star he had connections via BFF Matthew McConaughey and high profile exGF and breast cancer survivor Sheryl Crow.
The fact that he came back from that cancer to go on and win 3rd Place at the 2009 Tour de France made him somewhat of a mortal Superman. He has been stripped of all Tour de France titles for the years 1999 to 2005.
